MADISON, Wisc. – The Spokane Velocity fell in a revenge match for Forward Madison FC, as the Flamingos beat the Velocity 2-1 in the USL League One quarterfinals.
Madison scored the opening goal in the seventh minute with a Hakim Karamoko header, and Spokane replied only four minutes later with a Lucky Opara even more impressive diving header.
It would only take one more minute for Madison to take another lead, as Joshua Bolma hooked in a beautiful right-footed shot into the bottom corner.
Madison’s win earns them revenge for a home loss two years ago. Spokane won that semifinal 5-4 on penalties after a 0-0 regulation.
This loss marks the first time in franchise history that Spokane didn’t win a playoff match or even miss the league final.
