SPOKANE, Wash – Despite eligibility concerns with some players on the roster, the AP has ranked Gonzaga 15th in its men’s pre-season basketball poll.
The poll, released Monday, has the Florida Gators as the pre-season number one team, followed by Duke, Illinois, UConn and Arizona.
Gonzaga will play its first season in the rebuilt Pac-12. The Zags open the season November 2nd against Purdue in Las Vegas as part of the Hall of Fame Series.
Purdue is not ranked in the pre-season poll.
Gonzaga is waiting for court rulings to determine the eligibility of several transfers on this season’s roster. The AP is banking on Florida transfer Xaivian Lee being eligible, along with Florida State transfer Chauncey Wiggins.
The Zags can rely on returners Davis Fogle and Braden Huff, as well as Arizona State transfer Massamba Diop.
ESPN lists Gonzaga’s biggest non-conference game as Michigan State on December 19th in Palm Springs.
