MEAD, Wash. – There are plenty of good high school programs, lots of great ones, and a handful of elite. Not too many can truly call themselves a dynasty.
Mt. Spokane slowpitch softball can.
“It’s definitely refreshing,” senior Wildcats utility player Isabel Keene said. “Like, it’s just good to know that, like, I can come out every day to a team that’s, like, ready to be determined, just like I am and ready to, like, again, defend like what we’ve been defending every year.”
“Yeah, honestly, all the credit goes to our kids and their families for supporting them,” Mt. Spokane head coach Carl Adams said. “The time they put in away from, you know, school, softball, whether it’s in the weight room, whether it’s playing softball outside of our school season, they get all the credit for the success we’ve had.”
The Wildcats just completed a perfect 15-0 regular season off a 9-6 win over Central Valley on senior day, and now they own a 60-game win streak spanning three years and three state titles.
“Our coach just really leads us, and we like… It’s not effortless, like, we work so hard, and we work on all the small things, and we just build on it every game, every practice,” senior pitcher Avery Fox said. “We just keep adding.”
“I think we’re just able to adjust to anything; we can handle any weather, any field, bad holes,” senior outfielder Emme Bond said. “We can shake it off and just move on to the next play. We just adjust really well.”
This historic streak continues with Mt. Spokane’s three seniors, athletes who haven’t dropped a game since they were freshmen.
“It’s so cool because I get to be a part of it, and I’ve been a part of it for years,” Fox said. “And the people that I’ve who’s been older than me, that have been a part of it, it’s just so cool to know that we’ve built this family and team throughout the year. So, it’s really cool.”
Slowpitch softball leads the impressive legacy of all of Mt. Spokane sports, right alongside perennial basketball and football contending teams, all proud to leave their marks as Wildcats.
“It feels good that that’s how people view us and that, like, our hard work is being seen,” Keene said. “And it’s not just like a state, like a state title. They don’t see it as that. Like this year, as like us putting in the work every day.”
