COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — A Coeur d’Alene woman was sentenced to almost 3 years in federal prison for stealing over $1 million from a small business in Spokane Valley.
According to court records, 48-year-old Tahnya Hyung Shafer worked as a human resource manager for the business between 2023 and 2025.
During that time, Shafer stole from her former employer by inflating her paychecks and causing payments to vendors to be sent to her personal bank account instead of to the vendors.
The U.S. attorney’s office says in total, Shafer stole over $1 million, most of which she spent at casinos in north Idaho.
Shafer was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison. She was also ordered to pay over $1 million in restitution to her former employer.
