SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Public Schools is hosting an open house tonight to inform the community about an upcoming levy as the district works to maintain funding for extracurricular activities, support staff and academic programs.
The event begins at 6 p.m. at Ferris High School and is open to the public. District officials will present information about the levy and answer questions from attendees.
The proposed levy would cost taxpayers $2.50 per $1,000 of assessed property value—matching the current rate. Despite maintaining the same tax rate, Superintendent Adam Swinyard said the district faces financial pressure from inflation that makes the levy essential to preserve existing services.
“It’s just really important that we provide a continuum of options for people to engage the school district, and that will always include an in-person option, and some people appreciate that,” Swinyard said.
The open house comes after a similar event last week drew minimal attendance, with only one or two people showing up. Swinyard hopes tonight’s event will attract more community members.
