PULLMAN, Wash. — The City of Pullman is laying off five employees this month as part of a long-term plan to balance the city’s budget.
According to the city, two building inspectors, one assistant city planner, one administrative assistant for the fire department and one part-time library assistant will be laid off..
Additionally, the fire department will also change the status of six reserve firefighters to laid off, effective November 9.
The city says these layoffs have reduced the city’s workforce by the equivalent of 31 full-time positions since January.
“It’s incredibly difficult to make these kinds of decisions, especially the ones that directly impact our team,” said City Administrator Sean Wells. “But if we want to build a sustainable Pullman, we have to make the hard choices that will allow us to preserve the core services we provide in our community.”
