SPOKANE, Wash. — Overall crime in Spokane is down, according to a new report from the Spokane Police Department, but officials say a relatively small group of young people is responsible for a disproportionate share of violent offenses.
The department said the city’s overall crime rate has fallen 22% compared with 2019 and 14% compared with 2024.
While police described those figures as encouraging, the report identifies a continuing concern: the age of people connected to violent offenses.
According to the report, people 26 and younger are committing a disproportionate number of violent crimes compared with other age groups.
Between 2018 and 2025, approximately 150 young adults were arrested in connection with more than 300 cases involving shootings, robberies and aggravated assaults, the report found.
Across all crime categories, about 250 young people were involved in nearly 4,000 cases, resulting in more than 1,000 arrests, according to the department.
