SEATTLE, Wash. – In a defensive and mistake-laden game, the Seattle Seahawks (1-0) did just enough to get over the top and hold on to beat the New England Patriots (0-1), 13-10.
The Hawks’ defense snagged three Drake Maye interceptions in the fourth quarter, including an incredible toe-tapping pick to ice the game inside 30 seconds to go. Maye’s three total passes over 15 yards in the air all ended in interceptions.
Seattle starting quarterback Sam Darnold went down with a hip injury in the first quarter and did not return, but early X-rays postgame confirmed no fracture.
Reigning NFC Offensive Player of the Year wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught eight passes for 122 yards and Seattle’s only touchdown.
The Seahawks next hit the road to face NFC West foes Arizona next Sunday at 1:25 p.m.
