SHOSHONE COUNTY, Idaho — Law enforcement is warning people not to fly drones in or near the Dudley Fire area near Wallace, Idaho.
According to the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office, a temporary flight restriction is in effect over the fire.
Unauthorized drones can force helicopters, air tankers and other firefighting aircraft to delay their firefighting efforts. This puts the pilots, firefighters and the community at risk. Yesterday, the Idaho Panhandle National Forest says a drone incursion caused air operations over the fire to shut down temporarily.
Knowingly or recklessly interfering with wildfire suppression may also result in federal civil and criminal penalties.
As of the last update, the Forest Service says the lightning-caused fire is estimated to have burned 557 acres with no containment.
Beaver Creek Road from Delta through the Dobson Pass and south to the Nine-Mile Junction is currently closed because of the fire.
People living in the Blackcloud area from Dobson Pass to Ferguson should be prepared to evacuate if conditions change.
