SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — A boundary error has forced the Spokane County Elections Office to mail supplemental ballots to 804 voters in Precinct 6065 ahead of the August 4th Primary Election, according to the Elections Office.
The error marks the third boundary-related issue affecting Spokane County voters. The voters in the precinct were originally sent ballots that excluded a West Plains Aquifer Protection District measure.
The mistake stems from a precinct split earlier this year, according to the Elections Office. Precinct 6016, located south of Spokane International Airport, was divided into 6016 and 6065 to comply with state voter limits. Although the original filing was amended to include the new precinct number, the Elections Office did not update the district boundaries.
Voters in Precinct 6065 should return both their original ballot and the supplemental ballot, according to county officials.
Spokane County Auditor Vicky Dalton acknowledged the recurring problem in a statement. “While every voter will have an opportunity to cast votes for all their eligible issues, these three situations create additional effort for the voters,” Dalton said. Her office will review all boundary lines for districts that place tax issues on ballots after the election concludes, Dalton said.
