SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga Athletics announced it will sell alcohol at McCarthey Athletic Center beginning with the 2026-27 men’s and women’s basketball seasons.
Alcohol will be available at designated concession locations on the concourse. Patrons must be 21 or older show a valid ID. Guests may purchase no more than two beverages per transaction.
The student section will remain alcohol-free, per Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board guidance. Outside alcohol is prohibited.
Calvin Santangelo, a senior at Gonzaga, supports the change. “I’m pretty stoked for it honestly. I think it will be a good addition. The Kennel is one of the most renowned basketball stadiums in the country, and I think it’s become a norm for alcohol to be served in the stadiums,” he said.
Incoming student Chase Campbell sees financial benefits for the university. “The basketball games are already insanely popular all around the country. With the turnouts there plus the profit from alcohol sales I think it could bring in a good amount of profit,” Campbell said.
Gonzaga Athletics said it will evaluate the program throughout the season and make adjustments as needed.
