LAS VEGAS – Spokane native and Shadle Park High School graduate Terrance McKinney came up just short in one of the most dramatic fights of the night at UFC 329 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
McKinney looked poised for a statement victory early, hurting veteran lightweight King Green with heavy strikes and controlling much of the opening round. He also threatened with a takedown and dominant ground position, leaving Green bloodied as the fight appeared to be slipping away.
But Green weathered the storm.
As the round wore on, the 39-year-old veteran began to turn the momentum, attacking McKinney’s body before landing a series of right hands that forced the referee to stop the fight with just one second remaining in the opening round.
The first-round TKO victory improved Green to 36-17-1 with one no contest, while McKinney dropped to 18-9 in his professional MMA career.
