SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Indians couldn’t complete a series win over Vancouver on Sunday afternoon, falling 9-5 to the Canadians in the finale at Avista Stadium.
Despite an early spark from Max Belyeu, Vancouver’s offense broke the game open in the middle innings, scoring three runs in the sixth and adding two more in the seventh to pull away.
Belyeu wasted no time getting Spokane on the board, launching a leadoff home run to start the game. The Rockies prospect continued his recent hot streak by reaching base three times. Over his last 10 games, Belyeu has been one of the Northwest League’s hottest hitters, batting .390 with six home runs and 10 RBIs.
The Indians also got a strong performance from Tommy Hopfe, who finished 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Hopfe has been swinging a hot bat as well, collecting 15 hits and driving in 11 runs over his last 10 games.
Spokane battled throughout the afternoon but couldn’t overcome Vancouver’s late offensive surge. The Canadians capitalized on several scoring opportunities in the final four innings to secure the series-ending victory.
The Indians will now turn their attention to a six-game series against Tri-City beginning Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Avista Stadium.
