SPOKANE, Wash. — Camp Sekani Park is closed to the public until further notice as firefighters battle the Upriver Fire burning in the area, Spokane Parks and Recreation announced.
The closure covers all of Camp Sekani Park. The city said the decision was made to support first responders and keep the public safe as crews work to contain the fire.
Recreational access on public land to the west of the park remains open. Visitors can still reach Esmeralda Golf Course and Spokane County’s Shields Park during the closure.
Spokane Parks and Recreation said it is coordinating with incident command and will share additional updates about the park’s status in the coming weeks. The city is urging the public to respect trail closure areas to give firefighters the space they need to work.
“Our hearts are with our neighbors impacted by the devastating Upriver Fire, and we share gratitude for our first responders who are working tirelessly,” Spokane Parks and Recreation said in a statement.
Residents are asked to stay safe and honor all posted closure areas until further notice.
