OLYMPIA, Wash. — SB 5067 would lower the legal blood alcohol limit for drivers from 0.08% to 0.05%, but it won’t happen this year.
After the bill passed the Senate, a spokesperson for the House Community Safety Committee Chair says it didn’t have enough votes to pass out of the committee.
WSP data shows drunk driving arrests are surging statewide. In Spokane County, WSP arrested 946 people for DUIs in 2025. That’s 300 more than in 2021.
If it passed, it would’ve gone into effect on July 1.
Utah is the only state to have it at .05%.
