Spokane, WASH. — A man who allegedly led police on a chase through Spokane near Spokane Falls Community College was arrested and went before a judge for the first time today.
According to court documents, Spokane Police responded to reports that someone fired a shot toward North Central High School Wednesday around 4 p.m. There’s no indication anyone was hit. Police say he was seen waving a handgun from his truck in multiple locations.
Witnesses gave police a truck description and license plate number. Police were able to track down Carl Lindsey, 48, and stopped him near the Heritage Funeral and Cremation on Government Way. Multiple officers gave him commands, but then Lindsey sped off. Documents confirm police were in a pursuit of the suspect, and officers say at one point the truck was driving 80 mph.
Police then stopped the pursuit, and the Spokane Regional Air Support Unit helicopter followed the suspect. Documents state Lindsey drove into a police cruiser around Government Way and Whitstalks Way. The officer inside was injured and had pain to his left arm and wrist.
The helicopter followed Lindsey across the TJ Meenach bridge and into neighborhood east of Audubon Park. Then, police say Lindsey wrecked his truck near W. Gordon Avenue and Driscoll Boulevard and started running away. He was tased by officers and arrested on W. Kiernan Avenue.
Prosecutors say Lindsey has 18 adult convictions, including failing to register as a sex offender. His bond was set at $20k.
He faces charges of attempting to elude, felony hit and run and resisting arrest.
