SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga University’s dance program will premiere an original ballet production of “Thumbelina” this weekend at Magnusen Theater.
The production features Gonzaga students alongside children from local Spokane dance studios. Recent Gonzaga alumnus Nic Marshall composed the score, while former dance chair Suzanne Ostersmith created the choreography.
“It’s for young and old. It will warm every age and every heart. And, it is definitely something to see during these winter months. It feels like a breath of spring,” Ostersmith said.
The project has been almost a year in the making. Marshall emphasized the detailed work that went into the production.
“I just really hope that all the audiences see how detail oriented this production is. From the music that I’ve written to the choreography, the set designs, the hand-painted backgrounds, the costumes, every single piece of the show has received a lot of love from everyone involved, and we’re really excited to share it with everyone,” Marshall said.
The production features hand-painted backgrounds and custom costumes.
“Thumbelina” runs January 23-25 at Gonzaga’s Magnusen Theater. You can purchase tickets by clicking here.
