SPOKANE, Wash. — Families across Spokane can enjoy free winter activities and community connections when Spokane Public Schools and LaunchNW present Engage in Real Life Winterfest at Riverfront Park.
The celebration brings families together while showcasing local youth-serving organizations. Admission is free, though participants must check in at the Pavilion to receive required wristbands.
Free attractions and activities
Winterfest offers access to several popular downtown attractions at no cost. The historic Looff Carousel welcomes riders to experience its 59 hand-carved wooden creatures and interactive ring toss game.
Families can glide around the 650-foot Numerica Skate Ribbon, with access and equipment rentals provided through the Innovia Foundation.
The Mobius Discovery Center opens its doors for free admission, featuring hands-on exhibits for children of all ages. The attraction operates on four timed sessions accommodating up to 225 people each: 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., and 2:15 p.m. to 4 p.m. Entry operates first-come, first-served.
Community connections and special events
The Gesa Pavilion serves as a hub for community organizations and youth performances. A Global Neighborhood Thrift & Vintage pop-up shop will offer activities, and the first 100 families to register receive a free copy of “10 Rules for Raising Kids in a High-Tech World,” courtesy of Washington Trust Bank.
Theater enthusiasts can attend a conversation with Disney’s The Lion King cast members at the First Interstate Center for the Arts from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The session covers the musical’s music and puppetry. Admission is free but requires advance registration.
Organizers note that food is not provided, but concessions are available from Red Rock Catering and Feast World Kitchen. Families should arrive early for popular attractions as organizers anticipate high attendance.
