BOISE, Idaho – Fireworks shattered glass during the Boise Potato Drop on New Year’s Eve, hitting a child in the face.
Video online shows fireworks erupting as the giant polystyrene resin potato is lowered to usher in the new year. You can see a huge blast and hear the glass shattering.
A GoFundMe post says it was the first time a little girl named Isabella attended the Potato Drop.
“During the fireworks display, an explosion caused nearby windows to shatter. A piece of glass struck Isabella in the face,” the GoFundMe page says. “Bella was rushed immediately to St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital, where she underwent three hours of surgery.”
The post says the girl received a skin graft and faces a long road to recovery.
The page also says Isabella has Autism Spectrum Disorder, adding to the trauma of the event.
