SPOKANE, Wash. — A Spokane teenager who drove drunk and killed a jogger on the South Hill over the summer has pleaded guilty to his charges.
According to the Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office, the 18-year-old entered a guilty plea to vehicular homicide, hit and run, vehicular assault and driving without a valid license.
The teen was sentenced to a sentencing range of 30 to 80 weeks in for the crimes. The Department of Children, Youth and Families will determine the exact amount of time the teen will serve.
In July of this year, the teen, who was 17 at the time, had been drinking with others the night before. In the early morning hours, they drive another teenager home on South Perry Street and struck and killed Sarah Doxey while she was out for a morning jog with her friend.
The prosecutor’s office says the teen was driving more than 20 miles over the speed limit, crossed the center line, and jumped the shoulder curb before hitting Doxey. Doxey died from her injuries.
Witnesses say the teen then crashed into a tree and immediately left on foot. Police arrested him a short distance later.
The prosecutors office says the teen’s blood alcohol content was 0.095, which is almost 5 times the legal limit for a juvenile.
