Washington voters will elect a new representative to Congress next year.
Rep. Dan Newhouse, a Republican Washington’s 4th District, announced Wednesday he’s not running for re-election.
“This decision comes with no reservations or remorse, only gratitude for the tremendous opportunity to have represented my home state in Congress,” Rep. Newhouse said in a social media post.
Newhouse was first elected to Congress in 2014. He previously served in the Washington House of representatives.
Newhouse came under fire as one of 10 Republicans who voted to impeach Donald Trump in Trump’s first term.
He thanked his family for their love and support.
“I am truly humbled by this uniquely American journey that took a farm boy from Sunnyside, Washington clear across the country to represent his friends and neighbors in the ‘other’ Washington,” he said. “I will continue to serve my district with energy and enthusiasm until the end of my term.
