SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Public Schools may delay Wednesday classes due to a high wind warning that threatens to bring down power lines and damage trees across the region.
The National Weather Service issued the warning for Tuesday 10 p.m. through Wednesday 4 p.m. Officials will monitor conditions and may implement a late start Wednesday morning.
Schools operate on normal schedule unless officials announce changes by 6 a.m. Wednesday through the district’s notification system, website, social media and local media.
“If you don’t hear from us by 6 a.m., you can assume the school day is happening as usual,” district officials said.
If conditions worsen during school hours, officials will hold students safely at school for parent pickup rather than dismiss them into dangerous conditions.
Families should assess their neighborhood conditions and school routes when deciding whether to keep children home. Parents can contact schools directly for excused absences.
Questions can be directed to the district’s “Let’s Talk” communication system.
