PONDERAY, Idaho — Augie Fisher was 9 years old when he set up his first roadside bake sale to raise money for animals in need, according to Better Together Animal Alliance. Five years later, that simple gesture has generated more than $100,000 for the organization.
The Fisher siblings — Augie, now 14, along with younger siblings Iylla and Sully — have turned their annual bake sale into a community tradition, BTAA said. Their efforts, combined with matching donations, have helped thousands of animals receive medical care and shelter while awaiting adoption, according to the organization.
“The kids loved visiting the animals, but it always made them a little sad to see them still in the shelter,” said their mother, Katie Fisher, in a statement from BTAA. “As Augie says, even one dollar can help save someone’s future best friend.”
“This family’s generous spirit has inspired others to step up, and the impact has been extraordinary,” said Paige McGowan, BTAA’s Development Director, according to the organization.
The Fisher family will host their fifth annual fundraiser this Giving Tuesday, December 2, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the BTAA Animal Care Center at 870 Kootenai Cutoff Road in Ponderay, the organization announced. Baked goods will be available by donation only.
A local couple will match up to $30,000 in contributions, plus an additional $3,000 for gifts made in person during the celebration, according to BTAA.
“It’s an honor to have Augie, Sully, and Iylla here with us. Their support means so much to our team and even more to the animals,” McGowan said in the statement.
