CHENEY, Wash. — Cheney Public Schools (CPS) will restrict student cell phone use during school hours beginning with the 2025-2026 academic year under an updated policy approved by the district.
According to CPS, the district updated its policy and procedures on student electronic device use, with restrictions varying by grade level.”
Elementary and middle school students will face a complete ban on cell phones during all school hours.
High school students will be prohibited from using cell phones during classroom instruction but may use their devices during non-instructional time.
The policy applies to all mobile telecommunications devices, including smartwatches, earbuds and similar technology.
The district has not yet released details about enforcement procedures or consequences for violations.
