KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash. — Multiple brush fires along I-90 grew into a large wildfire prompting evacuations near Cle Elum on Monday evening, according Kittitas County Fire District 7.
Around 2:30 p.m. on August 18, fire crews responded to multiple brush fires burning along eastbound I-90 from milepost 77 to milepost 84, between the freeway and the railroad tracks. The fires caused lane closures on I-90.

By 7 p.m., I-90 had reopened but the fire had grown to roughly 200-acres, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The fire, also known as the ‘Sun Country Fire,’ is burning in brush and timber and threatening homes and a fish hatchery.
Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office said Level 1 (GET READY) evacuations are in place for people in the area of High Banks Road and Timber Valley Road off Nelson Siding Road near exit 78.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office said Level 2 (GET SET) evacuations are also in place for the Sun Country Fire, but did not specify where.
