SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is warning the community of scammers who are taking advantage of people during the wildfire burning near Little Falls on Wednesday night.
Around 11:30 p.m. on August 13, SCSO sent out a warning about scammers, posing as law enforcement, and calling people to tell them they need to evacuate for the Crescent Road Fire.
SCSO said these scammers are possibly using the fire evacuations as a way to get people to leave their homes so their property is vulnerable to criminal activity.
SCSO said deputies are going door to door in the evacuation zone to contact residents. They are NOT calling any homeowners about evacuations.
“If you receive a call from a person claiming to be law enforcement, be skeptical, as our deputies are going door to door in the evacuation zone. Check the map (below) to verify if you are in an evacuation zone and follow the directions,” said SCSO.
