SPOKANE, Wash. — Home Depot celebrated its new South Hill location with a grand opening on Wednesday, but neighboring businesses are raising concerns about increased traffic congestion in an area already experiencing bottlenecks.
The new store near 44th and Regal held its grand opening community Wednesday evening. It officially opens to the public Thursday morning at 6 a.m.
It also features ample parking spaces for customers, but accessing the parking lot may present challenges. When traffic reduces to one lane on 24th street, some worry the new business will only worsen the congestion on Regal.
Despite the concern, businesses like Twigs Bistro are happy to see more growth in the area.
“I’m excited for the new business and hopefully the more business it brings up here for us,” said James Gross, general manager for Twigs Bistro. “But that would be my only concern is the bottleneck over there.”
The City of Spokane currently has no long-term plans to widen Regal Street to address the congestion issues.
