SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A Spokane Valley man is accused of setting his own house and a neighbor’s house on fire using a blowtorch and Molotov cocktails.
According to an affidavit filed in Spokane County court, 36-year-old Cody Jensen is facing arson and explosives charges for an incident in Spokane Valley over the weekend.
The affidavit says Jensen and two victims lived at the home on 4th Avenue near Park Road when Jensen kicked in the victims’ bedroom door and said, “If I’m done, you’re done,” and “Next time I’m going to finish the job.”
The victims told law enforcement Jensen had recently lost ownership of the house and had several bottles filled with what appeared to be gasoline. The victims reported Jensen lit their bedroom and couch on fire. They were able to escape with their dogs.
The affidavit then says Jensen lit a neighbor’s house on fire and multiple vehicles.
One Spokane County deputy said he saw Jensen running from the scene and he refused to follow orders. The deputy said he saw Jensen try to light a brush pile on fire.
The deputy said Jensen would not follow orders, was tased, and arrested.
Jensen made his first court appearance Monday and is being held on $500,000 bond which was raised from $100,000 over the weekend. In court, neighbors testified they feared Jensen.
His arraignment is scheduled for May 13.
