AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. — Airway Heights firefighters will soon be moving into a brand new building!
IN 2023, voters approved a new $8 million public safety building that will hold courts, city hall, police, fire department and city administrative services. Firefighters will be the first to move into this building on South Garfield Street.
“They’re taping the sheetrock to get ready for painting,” said Fire Chief Mitch Metzger. “They’ll be painting next week. If the weather holds, people will be able to see the new concrete apron where fire trucks will go in.”
The city said the current fire station was built in 1968 and can no longer be remodeled or expanded. The outdated facility can no longer adequately house firefighters or equipment.
Chief Metzger expects fire crews will be able to start responding to calls from the new facility in June.
