PULLMAN, Wash. — Scammers pretending to be Pullman Police are targeting Washington State University athletes and their families.
According to the Pullman Police Department, numerous calls have come in from scammers who are calling athletes pretending to be members of the police department and the NCAA.
The scammers are telling parents of athletes the child was arrested and demanding money to keep the athlete’s name out of the press.
Pullman Police say this is a scam. Do not provide sensitive personal or financial information to the scammers.
If you are wondering whether a call from someone claiming to be police is real, Pullman Police says to call the department at 509-334-0802 or stop by the station at 260 SE Kamiaken.
If you believe you are the victim of a scam, call non-emergency dispatch at 509-332-2521 to file a report.
