PULLMAN, Wash. – The former Washington State Cougar quarterback John Mateer broke his silence today on social media with a goodbye and thank you to WSU and Pullman.
In an Instagram post, Mateer said “Pullman gifted me with the opportunity to learn and grow into the man I have become.”
He added, “the landscape of college football has changed and created opportunities for me that can’t be ignored.”
Mateer entered the transfer portal yesterday, and, according to head coach Jake Dickert, turned down a seven-figure offer from WSU to stay.
He has not publicly announced or decided his destination for the 2025 season, the most likely spots Oklahoma, Auburn or Miami.
This season, Mateer led the country with 44 total touchdowns.
