SPOKANE, Wash. — With the changing seasons, the sun is setting earlier in the day, and many are heading home from work in the dark. This can feel unsettling when you’re walking home or walking to your car, which is why one downtown Spokane service is offering a walking buddy.
The Downtown Spokane Partnership is offering ambassadors to the community. From 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week ambassadors can walk you home, to work, your car, or the bus, anywhere within their downtown service area.
They’re there to get you where you’re going with peace of mind.
“It’s really enjoyable,” said Eli Viveiros, an ambassador with Downtown Spokane Partnership. “What I like to go do is usually what I go and recommend other people to do. Try to build that kind of community.”
Viveiros has been walking with the program since last October. He said knowing people are getting to their destinations safely and with less stress is fulfilling.
“I personally like doing it a lot. I want to make sure that everybody feels safe and welcome down here,” said Viveros. “So, they can call us at our hotline, and ask us to do a service walk, from their car or from their office to their car.”
It’s easy to call and ask an ambassador to walk with you. You can reach their dispatch center by calling 509-353-9111. Viveiros said ambassadors usually can meet you five to ten minutes after you call.
