Mayor Lisa Brown ordered all city flags be lowered to half-staff on Thursday in remembrance of the two Navy aviators who died in a crash near Mount Rainier in October.
Mayor Brown’s order followed Governor Jay Inslee’s directive for all U.S. and Washington State flags to be lowered in memory of Lieutenant Commander Lydnsay Evans and Lieutenant Serena Wileman.
Lt. Cmdr. Evans and Lt. Wileman went down in a fighter jet during a training flight near Mount Rainier on October 15.
They had recently returned from a nine-month deployment with The Zappers aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower.
“Spokane sends its deepest sympathies and condolences to Lt. Cmdr. Evans and Lt. Wileman’s families, friends and colleagues,” said Mayor Brown. “I encourage anyone with a flag outside of their home or business to join us in this recognition to honor their memory.”
