SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Police warns of the dangers of reckless driving after an 18-year-old died in a motorcycle crash this weekend.
According to Spokane Police, Kiril Herlazhyi was speeding near North Ash Street and West Courtland Avenue at around 8:45 p.m. on Sunday.
Witnesses in the area said Herlazhyi and other vehicles appeared to be racing and were driving recklessly right before the 18-year-old crashed into a light pole.
Herlazhyi was pronounced dead at the scene. The Spokane County Medical Examiner says he died from multiple blunt force injuries.
The road was closed for several hours for the on-scene investigation.
“The loss of this young man’s life is a devastating reminder of how quickly things can go wrong when not driving in a safe manner,” SPD said in a press release. “Slow down and get home safe. Spokane’s streets are not made for racing.”
