OLYMPIA, Wash – A former Pasco Police officer convicted of murder lost his chance at a new trial.
The Washington Court of Appeals denied a request from Richard Aguirre to overturn his conviction.
Aguirre was convicted of killing Ruby Doss in 1986. At the time, Aguirre was serving in the Air Force and was stationed at Fairchild.
The case remained unsolved for decades until Aguirre’s DNA was collected in another criminal case, while Aguirre was working as a police officer in Pasco.
Aguirre argued investigators did not properly handle the DNA evidence in the case.
Aguirre was convicted in 2023 and sentenced to 25 years in prison.
His family sent a statement to 4 News Now, Aguirre’s family says “maintained by his innocence, Richard continues his legal battle to overturn the conviction.”
