VERMILLION, S.D. – The Eastern Washington Eagles (1-2, 0-1) couldn’t overcome a blitzing South Dakota Coyotes (3-0) attack, falling 41-23.
USD freshman quarterback Austyn Modrzewski threw for 245 yards and two touchdowns, outpacing EWU QB Nate Bell, who tossed 217 yards and a pair of scores. Both signal-callers threw one interception.
Running back Charles Pierre Jr. shined for the Yotes, dashing for 138 yards and a touchdown, his first 100+ yard rushing game since Nov. 2024.
EWU committed seven penalites for 40 yards, pushing the yearly totals to 23 for 185 yards. They also converted only five of 14 third downs, although the Eags’ one fourth down try was successful.
The Eags next stay on the road, traveling to the Washington Huskies. Kickoff at Husky Stadium is next Saturday at 4:15 p.m.
