BOISE, Idaho – Five men who responded to the deadly ambush of firefighters on Canfield Mountain in 2025 will receive the Idaho Medal of Honor Tuesday.
Attorney General Raul Labrador will present the honor to nine first responders, including Kootenai County deputies, a Northern Lakes Fire Captain and engineer Dave Tysdal, who was shot during the attack.
Tsydal was left with life-altering injuries when he was shot by an attacker who also killed Kootenai County Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Frank Harwood and Coeur d’Alene Fire Department Battalion Chief John Morrison.
The attacker died by suicide.
