VANCOUVER, B.C. — The Spokane Indians built an early three-run lead Sunday afternoon at Rogers Field at Nat Bailey Stadium, but the Vancouver Canadians rallied for a 4-3 win.
Tommy Hopfe gave Spokane the lead in the third inning, launching his 13th home run of the season to right field. The Indians added two more runs in the fourth when Clayton Gray lined a two-out single to right that brought home Robert Calaz and Alan Espinal. An error on the play allowed Gray to advance to second.
Vancouver answered with solo home runs from Ryan Sprock in the fourth and Maddox Latta in the fifth. Later in the fifth, Jaxson West and JoJo Parker scored on Jake Casey’s two-out double to center field, putting the Canadians ahead for good.
Spokane threatened in the eighth after Hopfe singled to begin the inning and moved to second on Roldy Brito’s sacrifice bunt, but Bradley Wilson struck out the next two hitters. Wilson worked the final 2 2/3 innings for his second save, striking out four.
Hopfe finished 3-for-4 with a homer, a run scored and an RBI. Espinal added two hits, while Gray collected Spokane’s other RBI. Indians starter Everett Catlett took the loss after allowing four runs over five innings. Austin Emener and Luke Hansel combined for three scoreless innings of relief.
Carson Myers earned the win for Vancouver, retiring all five batters he faced after entering in the fifth inning. The Canadians improved to 61-65, while Spokane fell to 56-69.
