SPOKANE, Wash. — The city of Spokane announced it has received $1 million in housing assistance funding to support residents affected by wildfires.
The money comes from the state Department of Commerce and will be administered by Goodwill Industries. It will go toward rental assistance, utilities, and leasing costs. It also includes funding that can be used for resources like medical devices, furniture, gas, and more.
The city worked with the Department of Commerce to expand the eligibility criteria to include residents with a household income at or below 120% of the Area Median income. For example, that is between $90,000 dollars to $108,000 dollars for a household of three according to the city.
The city and Goodwill have already started the process of identifying people who qualify and will begin enrollments and outreach as soon as possible.
Mayor Lisa Brown emphasized the urgency of deploying the funds to help those most in need.
“We know the need is urgent, and we are focused on getting these funds deployed as quickly as possible to provide meaningful assistance to those who need it most,” Brown said in a statement.
