SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — A man with a history of arson charges has been arrested for starting a fire in Spokane County on Saturday.
According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, 61-year-old Danny J. Riesberg is believed to be responsible for starting a fire near North Havana Street and East Rowan Avenue on Saturday afternoon.
Deputies say the fire grew to be around the size of half a football field. Firefighters were able to stop the fire before it reached a nearby business, though a utility pole was damaged.
Investigators reviewed footage and took statements from people in the area, and identified Riesberg as a suspect. Riesberg is also the registered owner of a car that is the same color and model as the one seen near the fire site.
The Sheriff’s Office says Riesberg was arrested in Minnesota for arson in 1995.
Riesberg was arrested at a home on North Lacey Street in Spokane this afternoon and booked into the Spokane County Jail for arson in the first degree.
