SPOKANE, Wash. — Highway 291 is now open to the public after being closed for more than a week due to the Spokane Complex Fires, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
The roadway had been closed between Assembly Street and 7 Mile Road, as well as between Rutter Parkway and Swenson Road. WSDOT and Cal 7 fire incident management team collaborated to clear the highway, using drone technology to survey slope stability and removing dozens of hazardous trees.
Drivers should allow additional time, remain alert to firefighters entering the highway from side roads, and be prepared for reduced visibility.
Level 3 evacuations may still be in place along portions of Highway 291.
