SPOKANE — The City of Spokane is offering free extra garbage collection services for residents returning to downgraded evacuation zones, according to the city’s Solid Waste Management Department.
Residents still in Level 3 evacuation zones will not receive collection services at this time.
Residents can place garbage carts on the curb starting immediately and can put them out daily if needed. Special collection rounds to downgraded evacuation areas will begin Monday.
The city cautioned residents not to place extra bags on non-regular pickup days, as special pickups will be unpredictable and based on available resources.
On regular collection days, residents can place extra bags for free pickup. All carts should be at the curb by 6 a.m., as routes may be adjusted during this period.
What the city will and won’t accept
The city will not accept fire debris, ash, or anything damaged by fire. Bulky items and appliances cannot be collected at this time.
Residents with fire-damaged garbage carts can request free replacements by contacting Spokane 3-1-1.
Residents living outside recently evacuated zones will continue to receive normally scheduled garbage, recycling, and food and yard waste collection services, though timing may be adjusted.
