OKANOGAN COUNTY, Wash. — The B and O Fire, which has burned 2,762 acres since July 9, has reached 95% containment near Okanogan, according to the Northeast Washington Incident Management Team 2.
Fire behavior remains minimal and contained within established lines. Management responsibilities transitioned to local units this morning as the firefighting effort enters its final phases, officials said.
Evacuation orders have been substantially reduced, Okanogan County Emergency Management reported. The Level 1 ADVISORY north of Vic Smith Road has been removed, while the Level 2 BE READY south of Vic Smith Road has been downgraded to Level 1 Advisory. Salmon Creek Road remains closed as crews’ complete suppression repair work.
Local crews will continue repairing dozer lines, mopping up around structures, and monitoring areas where isolated heat may remain. While smoke may occasionally be visible from heat pockets within the fire area, officials say these areas are not expected to spread beyond containment lines.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, though it has been determined to be human-caused, according to incident management officials.
