NEZ PERCE COUNTY, Idaho — The skeletal remains of a man missing since 2021 have been found in the Swamp Creek area in Nez Perce County.
According to the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office, a shed hunter and family members found what they believed to be a human skull, lower jaw and other bones while in the area on March 28.
The Sheriff’s Office and the Coroner’s Office went out to investigate at that time, where they found more remains believed to be associated with the skull.
The bones were sent to the Spokane Medical Examiner’s Office, where they were identified as Alan Sloan.
The Sheriff’s Office says Sloan was reported missing in December of 2021 when he failed to get in contact with his family. Sloan was not from the area, and his pickup truck was found stuck and abandoned near Wapshilla Ridge.
During the spring of 2022, Idaho Fish and Game found trail camera footage of Sloan from the day after he would have gone missing, more than ten miles from where his pickup had been found.
Despite extensive searches of the area at the time, Sloan was not found. The search for Sloan was suspended in 2022.
Sloan’s family has been notified of his death.
