SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Public Schools and Spokane Parks and Recreation launched construction Thursday on phase one of the Together Spokane all-weather fields project, a voter-approved initiative to expand athletic facilities across the community.
The groundbreaking ceremony at Shadle Park High School marked the beginning of work on new field improvements at two high schools. Shadle Park will receive an upgraded all-weather football and soccer field with lights, plus a new baseball infield and dugout. Rogers High School will get all-weather infields for baseball and softball.
The new all-weather surfaces and LED lighting will extend the playing season, increase evening use and reduce weather-related closures. The enhanced facilities will serve students, youth leagues, adult and senior recreation programs, and the broader public.
District Superintendent Dr. Adam Swinyard, Mayor Lisa Brown, School Board President Jenny Slagle, and Parks and Recreation Board President Bob Anderson participated in the groundbreaking ceremony, along with student representatives from both high schools.
Additional field upgrades and expansions are planned through the Together Spokane initiative.
