HILLSBORO, Ore. – Tommy Hopfe continues to be one of the hottest hitters in professional baseball. The Spokane Indians first baseman extended his hitting streak to 19 games Friday night—the longest active streak in all of affiliated professional baseball—as the Indians beat the Hillsboro Hops 4-2 for their seventh straight victory.
The Indians came out strong, taking an early lead over Hillsboro with three runs in the first inning. It started when Hopfe led off with a first-inning single, and then scored on a single by Ethan Hedges that brought in the first run. Then Jacob Humphrey really broke it open with a big two-run double to right field, making it 3-0.
The Indians kept it going in the second inning, with Hopfe hitting a double and then scoring again on another RBI hit from Hedges, and that was all the offense they needed to take control.
Bryson Hammer did his job on the hill, giving up just one run on two hits and striking out seven over five strong innings, which helped him earn the win.
Then Hunter Mann took over for the next three innings, doing his part to keep the Hops scoreless. Finally, Nathan Blasick came in to pitch the ninth inning, shutting the door and getting his sixth save of the season.
With this win, the Indians improved their record to 38-41 overall and 9-4 in the second half of the Northwest League, keeping them in first place.
