SPOKANE, Wash. — Team Egypt is on its way to Dallas for its next World Cup match.
The Pharaohs took off from the Spokane Airport Wednesday afternoon after spending the last few weeks training at Gonzaga. Some lucky fans got the chance to see some of the biggest soccer stars on the planet and Egypt fans were able to see their heroes during the team’s open practice.
“So excited to see Mo Salah and all of the other players in our national team,” said Team Egypt supporter Michael Tadrous. “It’s such a great opportunity. That you Spokane for hosting our team.”
Team Egypt arrived in Spokane on June 7 ahead of their World Cup training session.
In between games and practices, players were spotted walking around Spokane during their stay.
Mayor Lisa Brown got to see the team yesterday before they left for the round of 32.
“It’s been fun, and it’s this connection to the World Cup. I won’t forget that they were so gracious while they were here and generous with their time,” Mayor Brown said.
The team thanked the city and Gonzaga for its hospitality over the last three weeks and signed jerseys for some staff and students.
It may have only been three and a half weeks, but their stay helped connect Spokane to the world’s largest sporting event.
