Spokane, WASH. — Riverfront Park will transform into a summer carnival destination tomorrow, offering families rides, food and entertainment as part of a five-day celebration that includes a Fourth of July celebration.
The Riverfront Summer Carnival opens Wednesday at 4 p.m. Crews are currently working to set up carnival rides, food stalls and attractions ahead of the opening.
“It takes a long time for them to get those carnival rides up and together. It’ll all be up Wednesday by 4 p.m., and they’ll be working all the way up until then,” said Roni Dye, Riverfront Park Community Engagement Director.
The carnival arrives as Riverfront Park continues its busy summer schedule. The park has already hosted Hoopfest and Spokane Pride this season.
“Riverfront has so much going on, it’s an exciting place to be. It feels like we are programming something every weekend,” Dye said.
The carnival coincides with America’s 250th birthday celebration. Beyond the carnival, Riverfront Park will feature movies at the pavilion, special historic tours of the park, a Spokane Symphony performance, and fireworks on July 4th.
“We’ve done this for quite a few years and it’s just really exciting to keep this going. I feel like, especially in light of America 250, it’s a really fun event that we can put on for the community,” Dye said.
For park officials, seeing families enjoy the park’s programming reinforces the importance of the work.
“It’s a really rewarding job that I have. When it all starts coming together and you are finally there it’s really exciting for the community and for us as a parks team as well,” Dye said.
The carnival runs through July 4th, with the opening beginning at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Riverfront Park.
