MOSCOW, Idaho — The murder trial for the man accused of killing four University of Idaho will not take place in Latah County.
According to court documents, Judge John Judge granted the defense’s request to change the murder trial location.
The defense argued for the case to be moved to Ada County, but court documents granted the request without naming a location.
Bryan Kohberger’s defense team filed a motion to move the trial out of Latah County due to a possible biased jury. A hearing was held with the defense presenting their arguments on August 29.

Court documents say the court accepted the defense’s argument for “a reasonable likelihood” of presumed prejudice.
The court also noted there were staffing and security concerns with Latah County, including the court and sheriff’s office, handling a murder trial of this magnitude.

Kohberger is accused of killing Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Ethan Chapin, and Xana Kernodle in an off-campus home in 2022.
He faces the death penalty if convicted but his defense team recently filed multiple motions to take the death penalty off the table.
