SPOKANE, Wash. — Avista plans to shut off power to roughly 1,800 customers in the Indian Trail neighborhood of northwest Spokane around 1 p.m. Tuesday, citing a red flag warning and extreme fire weather conditions that pose a significant wildfire risk.
To support customers affected by the Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) in Spokane’s Indian Trail neighborhood Avista is opening a Customer Resource Center (CRC) at Skyline Elementary School. It will be open from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. today. The CRC will offer a place to charge small electronics, get water and snacks, and learn more about the power outage in your area.
The Public Safety Power Shutoff, or PSPS, is a deliberate decision to de-energize power lines when weather conditions increase the danger of a wildfire. Avista says it will not restore power until fire risk conditions improve and crews confirm it is safe.
What to expect
After the shutoff, Avista crews will patrol lines on the ground and with drones before restoring power. Restoration could take more than 48 hours depending on weather and potential line damage. Track updates on Avista’s outage map at myavista.com/outage.
